I am 36 years old - I am 5'9" and weigh about 260 pounds. I have a thick frame, and there was once a time where I was solid muscle.

I was very athletic, and at one point, I was even able to bench press 300 lbs - However, years of sitting still, working (computer work) and night school (got 2 degrees at night in 13 years) have made me a fat A**.

I feel TERRIBLE! I have terrible heartburn, all my joints ache, I am extremely tired all the time, I hate going out, because I have such a low self esteem - I am very self conscious of this...I don't know what to do....

I've tried EVERYTHING, but always revert back to being fat. I can't seem to beat this...I am starting to realize that I have a food addiction - mainly carbs (breads, rice, pasta) - I love to eat that crap, it gives me a sense of comfort and relief - I truly believe I am addicted and I don't know what to do...

I am considering the Lap Band, but 1-it's costly, and 2-it makes me nervous and it doesn't address my problem.

Is there something you can recommend for me? have you ever encountered someone with my problem? Please help....

Before taking my advice - Look at "10 ways to quickly break out of a weight loss plateau" to see if you did anything wrong that could've slowed down your weight loss but from what you've told me...

You're doing everything right and the only thing I see you're doing wrong is that you're worrying too much about what the scale says (Read #9 from "10 ways to quickly break out of a weight loss plateau") because...

If other people are telling you that you look GREAT then that's a sign what you did worked and you firmed up, gained muscle that made you look better but...

You can do this advanced weight loss program here to make those scale numbers go down but if I were you - I'd be happy with the results you're getting now and...

Since you're only just 10 pounds overweight - It's going to take some time for you to lose those last 10-to-20 pounds and...

Low instensity Cardio like walking, bike, or elliptical may be good for weight loss for beginners but for someone like you...

You need shorter 20-to-45 minute more intense cardio like weight loss intervals to see results

Im having a dip in motivation at the moment. i started working out seriously(5-6days a week, spending 1H30-2hours in the gym, sometimes twice a day) since june(about 2 and a half months ago).

i thought my hard efforts would bear their fruit as i faithfully gave my ALL during training. i wasnt following a diet plan, but eating sensibly(about 1400-1800 Cal p/day), but must admit that at times i cheated on cookies from being too anxious/ depressed about my SLOW weight loss.

I started at 147lbs and 29.7% bodyfat:June, 2nd, 2008.
Today im floating between 140 and 143lbs, and bodyfat at 27.8%: August, 13th, 2008.
Im highly disappointed about these results and slowly losing hope(i started binging on cookies/muesli bars again since sunday and cant seem to find the courage to focus again and keep going).i also started a high protein diet(powder desserts and bars) about 2weeks ago, thinking it would boost my weightloss, but im hungrier and more frustrated than ever now!!
i also thought i would lose faster as im higly dedicated and work out a REAL sweat at the gym. i do all the gym classes: 45mins each(Body pump, RPM, step,aeroboxing, aerobics, bodytone) plus free weight training, eliptical machine, stepper and running on the treadmill, as part of my weekly workouts.
but i get the feeling its not working/going as fast as id like.
My friends, boyfriend and gym instructor say that im looking slimmer, but i cant see it, and the way they say it sounds like there's a "BUT..." missing; like "but you still got a bit more work to do".Im SO desperate to reach that high point and feel the pounds shedding off and feel the pride and admiration frm everyone...

My physique:
ive got a Beyoncé/ j-lo type body(small frame, small waist, african booty and im 5'3").im a little "overweight" around the butt and hip area and so would love to change my lowerbody and look like Beyoncé did when she lost weight for her role in Dream girls.(i did the master cleanse in May, it worked at first few days, but i put on the weight plus a kilo or two at the end of the 10days, regardless of my committment)

my objectives:
i want to lose 22lbs and weigh 12lbs.
i would also like to find the best workouts to slim down and tone the lower half of my body without adding bulk(or weight to the scale).
i'd like to slim down my knee and thigh area, firm-up and round-up my butt, and tone my lower back and calfs.

i've heard contradicting info about doing too much cardio not being good for you, and too little inefficient to lose fat, so im kinda lost here.

please could you help me out by prescribing a sensible workout plan(the more intense the better: i want this REALLY bad and im willing to do the work!!! ^^,)
and if possible a diet/ eating plan to help me lose 22lbs in 3-4months or before the end of the year(its my Xmas wish to be at 122lbs)

With your busy schedule - Try doing the best way to lose weight fast and since you're not TOO MUCH overweight...

You're going to have to fit in some exercise so add 4-to-5 times a week of doing 20-to-45 minutes of weight loss intervals or fast weight loss workouts 1-to-2 times a day and if you don't have time for that

Hey Adrian,

I am a 21 year old that is 5'2" and weighs about 143lbs. I have a thick body shape but with a small waist however I still have some fat around my waist area. I am really interested in starting a diet and exercise routine so that I can go down to 120-125 but still maintain my curves. However I am a busy full time college student with a part-time job, a part-time internship and involvment with an organization on campus. I want something that will not require 3 hours of daily gym workouts. Please help!

Hello again Adrian, I have been enjoying your website and found so many helpful things on it but I am now frustrated because I just recently found out that I have a Thyroid problem and it's the underactive one that keeps you from losing weight. I would like to know if you know of any plan that will help someone that has a thyroid condition try to lose the weight. I was doing so great with the exercising and following a good diet and now to hear this information when I have been struggling to lose the weight is very disapointing. I'm not going to quit doing what I have been doing but I would like to prove that theory of not being able to lose weight with this problem wrong. So please let me know if there is a plan to do so. I recently sprained my ankle, and I know I am supposed to rest it etc. However, I am going into the Air Force, and I can not be sedentary for a few weeks while my ankle heals. Even though you gained 6 pounds - DO YOU look 6 pounds slimmer or about the same because if you do...

Don't worry about it becuz you're gaining muscle which keeps weight off and helps you burn more fat in the long run plus it makes you look better while losing weight (burning fat)

Hi, this site is great. One question I have that I ever can't seem to get help answering.... In 2007, I was working out steadily for a few months, trying to replace fat with muscle. I ended up taking off 4 months this year and have yet again been working out consistently for 6-7 weeks (4 or more times per week, including weight training). i'm eating small meals, more protein and for the most part, barely any junk. I've noticed a difference, espc in my upper body. I'm 5'7" and have gone for a size 8 to a size 6, but I'm struggling because I still feel like I'm skinny fat. I can see that I'm losing weight and building muscle, but most noticeably in my upper half, not in my butt or hamstrings as quickly as I'd like. My belly has slimmed down but still has a fat tire around it. I know I'm close to the goal, but my question is:

How long does it take to really build the muscle back in your butt and hamstrings, to have really toned, strong legs when the muscle is small? If I continue on with eating 100+ grams of protein, small meals and weights, should I be there in 6 weeks? I need a target so not to get frustrated and give up or lose my motivation that I will never get my muscle back. I'm only 31!! Thank you!!!

Adrian thanks for the plan I'm exactly about 50-55 pounds over weight. I'm short 5" even. I'm Indian so I wanted to know if eating Indian food will be okay, as far as the way we cook veggies or is raw better? I'm not using much oil when i cook and I'm using wheat instead of white rice or white flour. I HAVE to lose 20 pounds by the end of August. I was wondering if I could do the 20 pounds in 3-4 weeks first please let me know. I started back working out 6 times a week now. I'm doing 30 mins of cardio first thing in the morning when I wake up then in the afternoon I'm doing either Jullian Michael's 30 Day Shred, Power Sculp or using the workout's in Jullian's 30-Day Diet and Fitness Plan for the Strongest, Sexiest You at the gym and an additional 30 mins of cardio. If you have an emergency situation where YOU HAVE to lose 20 pounds like before a wedding or trip to the beach then...

Do everything you can to make your weight loss deadline which is doing all 30 days of Jillians plan but...

If no weight loss emergency - Cut back to 20 days or LESS and...

Even if you do cut back to 20 days or less... The chance you'll lose 20 pounds all depends on how overweight you are

You should see some pretty good (weight loss & firming) results with it since it's the first time you've done it and...

If your fitness level is low meaning you've never worked out or haven't in a while then...

The main thing you can do is keep losing weight and hopefully you may lose some hip fat to make your hips look smaller but You can also do 2 sets of 12 reps of certian hip exercises using lighter weights to make your hips look smaller.

Hi, I am 25 years old and 5 feet tall, my weight is 130 pounds and I want to loss 20 - 25 pounds fast. I have started exercise and diet 3 weeks ago for 5 times a week around 2 hours but I have yet not seen any weight loss. it still 130 pound. Could you please tell me where did I go wrong. Hi Adrian,

I'm 47 and have lost 35lbs since Oct of last year. I'm down to 143 from 195 2 yrs ago and am 5'4". Since mowing season has begun, I try to mow for an hour a day (not self propelled) and the hills give me a full body work out. My problem is I think over the last several months, I have not consumed enough calories and have burned lean mass. I've been 50 lbs overweight most of my adult life. 2 yrs ago, I did the nutrisystem and lost 40 lbs of which 20 were put back on (since lost). My question is..I'm left with horrible sagging thighs (extra skin?) in the back of my legs, especially apparent if I bend over. I expected the saggy belly (carried twins) but never had the saggy thighs 2 yrs ago but I didn't mow then either. My body is hard under the skin (ok except for a tiny bit around the upper thighs and my belly). I haven't had such lean muscles in my legs since I was a teen. I can feel tendons and such. I'm trying to eat more but want to know how I reverse this. I'd rather have bigger thighs versus extra skin. Any advice?

I love this site and will definitely incorporate many of your fantastic exercises into my routine.

I'm really feeling sad today. I've been on your diet for two weeks. The first week I lost 6 pounds and I was so excited, but this week nothing. I have been following the plan as I was the first week. However, there has been a few minor changes. I'm back to work now, so the last meal of the day is around 8:00. Should I just start skipping that meal? Also, after I eat the fruit and drink the why protein a couple of time I didn't eat anything else, because I wasn't hunger. Does this hurt the program? In my mind, I thought if anything it would speed up the weight lose process. I have been excercing 5 days a week, which is new for me. I go to the gym and do intervals for 30 minutes every morning. In miles the distance is 1.90 usually with a 2.0% grade. My heart rate stays between 123-150. I tried your workout, but I have some problems with impacting from jumping. Please respond as soon as possible I really want to lose weight.

The atkins diet is a good diet to start on but it's better to go on a diet & workout plan like this one here and pick "LAZY" as activity level to speed up weight loss and...

Instead of going on a only protein diet like the atkins (which is a good diet for fast weight loss by the way) - It's best to do the diet plan I suggested and just eat higher protein diet where 40-to-50% of your calories are proteins but you can do the atkins and succeed as well but...

Your success or longer term success on atkins all depends on how long you can stay on the diet before getting very bad carb cravings

hi adrian, I am taking your advice and telling myself that I can lose 100 pounds in the next 7-8 months. I have just started the atkins diet today. Do you think this is a good way to start?? I want to lose weight fast, but i know i cannot "pig out". I am also going to start curves for women. I know I wont burn a massive amount of calories there, but it will help me burn fat and gain muscle.. what do you think, and what suggestions can you give me for maximum results. Thank you so much!!
