If you’re swinging the weight up by moving your shoulders then the weight is too heavy and it also means you will not be getting a good arm workout.
If you’re a beginner it’s a good idea to put the hand of the no-working arms on the back of the working arm to hold it firmly in place to prevent your shoulders from moving and to allow your triceps to do most of the work.
Guidelines for women
Pick a weight that allows you to do only 8-to-15 reps at a time.
Any weight where you can do more than 12-to15 reps is too light so you'll probably need to start with a 5-to-10 pound weights instead of light 1,2 & 3 lb weights.
Only about 2-to-5 sets of 8-to-15 reps will firm up flabby arms to prevent them from jiggling when you wave at people but…
