To determine whether you're shaving with or against the grain…
Rub your hands across the stubbly hairs on your face and The direction in which you rub your hands where it feels smooth or has less resistance is with the grain but…
The direction in which you rub your hands where your face feels rough like sandpaper is against the grain and usually…
Shaving downwards on your cheek & chin area and shaving upwards on your neck is with the grain.
Use shorter strokes when you shave instead of
longer strokes to prevent you from pressing down TOO HARD on your
skin & getting razor burn.
Rinse your blade out after every few strokes to get rid of any
shaving cream, hair and dead skin. Shaving with a clogged up razor
could lead to cuts.
Shave each area of your face or body ONCEbut for a closer shave…
Shave each area twice by shaving ONCE with the grain and then
ONCE again against the grain but if you do that,
Shave your face with the electric razor going with the grain. Don't press the electric razor down hard into face.
Gently glide the electric razor over your face so it can cut your
hairs for you.
Keep your electric razor clean and replace blades once they
get dull.
Use the right kind of razor
Always Use New sharp razors when you shave and throw out your
old blunt razors that will cause more cuts and razor burn.
Use a new razor after every 2-to-3 shaves or at least use a
new shaving razor once a week.
Always clean off your razors after shaving to make your
razors last longer.
Place your blades in a container of alcohol to keep them
clean and sharp so they won't irritate your skin as much.
After You Shave
Rinse off your face with cool water to make sure you have completely
removed any remaining hair and shaving cream.
On the days you're going to
exfoliate your skin… Exfoliate your skin first before you shave because exfoliating removes all the dead skin, helps
get rid of ingrown hairs
and it'll help reduce razor burn.
Exercise before you shave so your sweat will not irritate your freshly shaved skin.
If it's common for you to get ingrown hairs and razor bumps from shaving then
ONLY shave with the grain instead of shaving with &
against the grain for a close shave.
Switching to an electric shaver may help you get a better shave
that's free of razor burn, razor cuts, razor bumps and ingrown hairs
(or vice versa)
